How to make a fashion statement with your clothes and jewelry

Most of us think that in order to make a fashion statement one has to either be a celebrity, or extremely rich, which is not true at all. Anyone can make a fashion statement. In fact, all of us are constantly making fashion statements by the clothes and jewelry we wear, they’re just not the fashion statements we want to make.

So how do you start communicating what you want to communicate with the world through your clothes and jewelry? Let us tell you.

1. Simplicity is key

Coco Chanel said, “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” And we couldn’t agree more. A lot of people think that, in order to make a fashion statement, they need to wear intricate clothing and flashy jewelry with lots of accessories. The reality is the opposite, the best fashion statements are made with simplicity.

To clarify, we’re not saying that you shouldn’t wear jewelry or that you shouldn’t accessorize. We’re saying that every single piece of your outfit has to fit perfectly with the rest, and everything should be essential. If something is not essential, take it away.

2. Create your own personal style

Your personal style goes beyond just a simple fashion statement. It makes sure that your fashion statement endures even when you’re not in the room. But how do you go about creating one?

The first step is to identify a few fashion icons whose style personally appeals to you. Then define your personal style by mixing their styles. But don’t just haphazardly pick outfits and colors. Decide what colors look best on you and then start creating outfits. If there’s a personal feature that people frequently compliment you on, try to emphasize it.

The most important thing to remember here is that creating your personal style is a journey. It won’t happen in one day. Until you figure it out, you’ll have bad days and you’ll have good days. On the days you feel like you’re looking your absolute best, take a picture (preferably in a full-length mirror). After a while, you’ll have a collection of these pictures and you can use them as a blueprint for creating great outfits that are you. Remember, fashions fade, but style is eternal.

3. Don’t forget perfume

You cannot make a fashion statement without being remembered or without stirring up emotions in other people. And when it comes to memories and emotions, no sense beats scent. Studies show that 75% of the emotions we experience each day are due to smell. Human beings are also 100 times more likely to remember a scent over a sight, sound, or touch.

Use the most powerful sense to your advantage. Go perfume shopping and try out samples. Pick a handful that appeal to you and assign categories. For example, you can have a perfume for formal events, another for casual events, and completely different one (or two) to woo your dates.

We hope these tips help you express yourself and your individuality. Let us know if you’d like to see more on this topic. Keep looking sharp out there!
